November 2016 saw the opening of the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at the University of California, Davis. Since it was built in the 21st century for contemporary art, the new museum at UC Davis needed a unique, modern architectural design. This came in the form of the Grand Canopy. This semi-open, tilted overhang with its numerous horizontal beams causes light and shadow to form a striped pattern on the ground below during daylight. With its contemporary exterior design and interior contemporary art exhibits, the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art is a true contemporary museum for the 21st century.
