Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is a multi-cultural complex located at Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station in Seoul, Korea. Since its opening in 2014, DDP has staged diverse cultural events including exhibitions, fashion shows, product launch shows, forums, and conferences. It’s known as a hub where new products and fashion is introduced, expanding throughout Asia and the world.

From the very beginning, DDP garnered attention as Korea’s first public building whose design was chosen through an international design contest held by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The winning design was by world-renowned Zaha Hadid, an Iraqi-born British architect. Hadid focused on the dynamism of the Dongdaemun area, which is in a state of constant flux from the early morning to late at night. Her design, entitled “Metonymic Landscape,” uses the historical, cultural, social, and economic characteristics of the Dongdaemun area as its foundation and adds futuristic values and vision to it. Hadid created a space that flows without boundaries, based on her observations of the region's continuously changing dynamics.
